Superintendent

Dear Ashe County Families,

Welcome to Ashe County Schools. As Superintendent, I’m incredibly proud of what we’re building together in Ashe County. Our schools are welcoming spaces where students are challenged academically, supported socially and emotionally, and inspired to reach their full potential. With a 92% graduation rate, our students are proving that hard work, high expectations, and strong community support lead to real results.

We believe that families are a child’s first and most important teacher, and we are honored to partner with you every step of the way. Together, we’ve created schools that prioritize student success, well-being, and opportunity for all.

At Ashe County Schools, students are prepared for success in college, careers, and life through a wide range of academic and career-focused opportunities. High school students have access to 18 Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways, JROTC, an Occupational Course of Study, Advanced Placement courses, and college-level coursework through our partnership with Wilkes Community College – Ashe Campus. Many students graduate with industry-recognized credentials, valuable college credits, and even associate degrees, with over 10% of the Class of 2025 earning a full associate degree before receiving their high school diploma.

Over the past five years, Ashe County Schools has been recognized both for academic excellence and for closing achievement gaps. Westwood Elementary is an Arts A+ School. Blue Ridge Elementary received a 2021 National Blue Ribbon School Award and a 2024 Leader in Me Lighthouse Award. Mountain View Elementary received the 2023 NCASCD Lighthouse School Award, and Ashe County Middle School was renewed as a 2024 National Schools to Watch.

These recognitions reflect the work of our exceptional educators and students and have helped Ashe County Schools earn a place among the Top 10 school districts in North Carolina in state testing results for four consecutive years.

We also believe in the importance of a strong start. Our 5-star rated Pre-K program now includes free NC Pre-K, free Developmental Day, and a paid classroom option, making high-quality early learning more accessible than ever.

Beyond the classroom, our students shine in clubs, the arts, band, and athletics. Whether they’re leading on the field, performing on stage, excelling in an internship with a local business, or competing in academic events, there’s a place for every student to belong and succeed.

From Leader in Me to character education, we’re equipping students with leadership skills and life skills that will carry them far beyond our schools. Our commitment is not just to teach—we strive to prepare and inspire each child to live their best life.

Thank you for being an essential part of our Ashe County Schools family. We are honored to serve your children, and we look forward to continuing this journey of excellence together.

Sincerely,

Dr. Eisa M. Cox, Superintendent
